Mining Exchange wedding :: Christina + Josh

Another romance that started in high school! Christina and Josh dated as teens and even went to prom together (how I’d love to see those pictures!), then a couple of years later they reconnected during their college years. This wedding was the culmination of years of deep love and friendship. The families were ecstatic! And even though it sure looked like we were going to get dumped on, the rain miraculously held off and we even got some great afternoon sunshine. It was such a sweet, sentimental celebration. You could feel the love! Congratulations Josh and Christina, what a wonderful day!

Mining Exchange wedding :: James + Alli

I consider this lovely bride, Alli, to be a personal friend. We met a few years ago when she did some modeling for me, and I became quite fond of her! So when she and James found each other (her mom set them up on a blind date!), got serious, and then got engaged, I was so tickled that they chose me to be their wedding photographer. Of course their wedding at the Mining Exchange was perfection! I’ve never seen Alli so happy, and you can see by the way he looks at her that James is deeply in love. They make a great team, these two. What a wonderful day. So happy for you, Alli and James!

Kayla & Cullen’s Itty Bitty Courthouse Wedding

There were no fancy place settings or centerpieces, no bridesmaids or groomsmen, not even a bridal bouquet — just two kids in love, with their parents to witness their vows as Judge Martin formalized their union in a brief ceremony. It’s been a while since I’ve had the pleasure of documenting a sweet little courthouse wedding. I thoroughly enjoyed the short time I spent with Kayla and Cullen. Yes it was cold and damp outside, but we didn’t care. It was all about the moment! Kayla and Cullen met in basic training and fell in like, only to find themselves both stationed at Fort Carson, where like turned into love. Obviously they were meant to be together! I wish them all the best in their new adventure!

Great Gatsby styled wedding shoot at the Mining Exchange!

Art Déco Great Gatsby wedding at the Mining Exchange

Last week I did an Art Déco/Great Gatsby styled wedding shoot at the Windham Grand Mining Exchange in downtown Colorado Springs. The purpose was to show off the Mining Exchange’s elegant new ballroom, the Gold Room, in the gorgeous Art Déco era building adjacent to the main hotel. What a fun day! Our model, Inda, drove over 100 miles to be the “bride”, and the efforts of many wedding professionals all working together made this shoot a huge success. I love the results! I took my visual inspiration from Baz Luhrmann’s “Great Gatsby”. Everything came together just beautifully. Here are a few of my favorite images from the day. Enjoy!

Location: The Mining Exchange

The Mining Exchange has so many options for a wedding! This empty ballroom was a perfect spot for a dramatic wedding portrait. I love the tall windows and high ceilings!

I love how this necklace drops elegantly to the back instead of the front. Gorgeous!

There was another table set up with pink linens and crystal accents. So pretty.

The large glass disk supported by votives is genius. What a great way to show off a dramatic tablescape!

The headband that Inda is wearing is mine, and it’s a geniune piece from the 1920s. I’ve had it for years. Imagine a flapper wearing it back in the day, what a fun thought! Makeup by Rachel Barker, hair by Paige Hoover at Hotheads Studio.

There is a beautiful, antique Austrian piano in the lobby of the Mining Exchange. How could I not use it for a wedding portrait?

One of our last shots of the day. Inda is very photogenic, and so is the Mining Exchange! What a great place for a wedding!
