I’ve done many engagement portraits, at the Broadmoor and everywhere else you can think of (even Pikes Peak!), but I’ve never actually documented an engagement — that is, a nervous guy getting down on bended knee to propose to his sweetie. That’s why I was so thrilled to have this joyful assignment last week, on the eve of Independence Day. It was spectacular! So much love, happy tears, laughter and rejoicing! It was made doubly so when Courtney and Richie walked back to their suite after the big moment to find Courtney’s family there, much to her amazement. They had made the trip from California in secret to surprise her! Richie’s mom Bryn planned the whole thing, and she and Richie’s family were all there too, so it was a wonderful flurry of happy hugs, tears and toasts, after which we strolled around the lake and made some portraits to commemorate this wonderful occasion. Congratulations Courtney and Richie! I wish you all the best!
I admit it: I cried. How could I not? Somehow I managed to get all of these incredible moments while blubbering like a baby 🙂
One of my favorite moments of the day is when Richie did a little happy dance (the photo on the right).
An excited mother of the groom, Bryn, opened the door to reveal…
Courtney’s family, who secretly made the trip to surprise her!
There was never any doubt! Since the couple has been together for six years, Bryn was certain of a “yes”. She hung up this banner with utter confidence.
Bryn put together lots of mementos and goodies to honor the occasion, such as specially bottled wine, chocolate covered strawberries, and these custom made July 4th-themed bandannas for one and all.
Here’s everyone in both families, looking mighty happy! (I told them to laugh like Dr. Evil.)
Richie and Courtney make a handsome couple!
The gorgeous ring.
Congratulations, Courtney and Richie!
