Emma Lynn’s birth story

newborn photographers Colorado Springs
My assistant and second shooter Joy had her baby on Wednesday! Lucky me, I got to photograph the birth, and it was a truly amazing, humbling and moving experience. I documented the late stages of labor, the delivery, and the joyful and chaotic moments that followed. It’s a girl! And her name is Emma Lynn! And she’s beautiful!

Here are a few images from the day. Enjoy! (And if you’d like to see more, the complete gallery is on my Facebook page here: Introducing Emma Lynn!)

Colorado Springs newborn photography: hello, Baby J !!!

newborn photography Colorado Springs

Little J surprised us all by making her debut in 2013 instead of 2014 as projected! I have a feeling this won’t be the last time she does things her own way. I made these portraits of her when she was just eight days old. I’m already madly in love, and I’m so happy that I get to document her entire first year. What a sweet little punkin!

Colorado Springs fine art portraits: WWII veteran Lloyd

Colorado Springs fine art portraits

These are my neighbors and friends, Lloyd and Helen. They live two doors up from us. Lloyd is 93 years old and a decorated veteran of World War II. I have photographed them and their family before, but that was in 2006, so I thought it was high time for another portrait sitting. I chose Veterans Day for the obvious reasons. I’ve known Lloyd and Helen for 16 years, ever since I moved into my house. They’ve lived in their home since it was new — 1956! Lloyd is a man of few words, and I like that about him. Helen tells me that in all their 65+ years of marriage, he never spoke about the war until the last 10 years or so, then he finally began to give her the details of his experiences. She is very proud of him and his service, and I’m proud to have them as my neighbors. You really couldn’t ask for better folk to live near you.

Family portraits in Colorado Springs: the B family

What a cute family! I photographed Nat and Renée’s wedding almost five years ago, and since then they’ve added two adorable little ankle-biters and a handful of chickens to their household. If they look slightly familiar, it’s because they are currently being featured in an HGTV ad that’s in heavy rotation.  They’re famous! We had so much fun taking family portraits in Monument Valley park and at their beautiful Victorian home downtown.  Nat and Renee make the cutest kids, yes they do!
