Margit’s Parent Album

A couple of months ago I delivered this beautiful parent album to one of my favorite longtime clients, Margit. Her daughter, Samantha, was married in July of 2018 at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort, and Margit was so happy with the pictures, she ordered a full sized album for herself. I just love this family to pieces and was very, very excited to be the photographer for Samantha and Joe’s big day. Both their album and Margit’s came out just beautifully! Margit chose the pictures for this book, and I thought it was neat that she wanted the first spread to be comprised of Samantha and Joe’s engagement portraits at Mueller State Park. It looks great!

Senior Portraits in Cheyenne Canon :: Grace

Colorado Springs senior portraits in Cheyenne Canon

Check out these gorgeous Colorado Springs senior portraits in Cheyenne Canon! This is Grace, and we took these in October (I know, I know, it took me a while to share them). North Cheyenne Canon Park is one of my favorite spots for portraits, especially in October. Fall is my favorite time of year! Grace was a natural in front of the camera, and as you can see, she’s quite photogenic. It was a real pleasure photographing her senior portraits!

La Foret Wedding :: Taryn + Nathan

La Foret wedding photography

I was extra excited for Taryn and Nathan’s wedding at La Foret because I knew it would be fun and different. They didn’t disappoint! Everything from the thousand origami cranes in every color to Taryn’s labor of love, the wedding dress she spent months hand-beading, was unique, offbeat and very personal.

Taryn owns a bead shop in Old Colorado City, and she’s (obviously) an expert in the medium. Her wedding dress was truly a bespoke, original work of art. She knew she didn’t want to wear white, so she went in search of something different. The bodice is a Mary McFadden piece from 1980 found in a vintage shop. Taryn modified it with the help of a sewist friend, Karen Holloway, by removing the sleeves and changing the back closure from a zipper to dramatic corset lacing with a modesty panel. She augmented the existing beading with even more hand-done bead work. The skirt is a custom-made piece. Taryn added a lace panel in front and tons of exquisite bead work to tie it in with the bodice. The process took months, and the result is just gorgeous! Best of all, underneath it she wore green platform Chuck Taylors!

But the dress wasn’t the only handmade thing in this wedding. The aforementioned origami cranes, the boutonnieres, the jewelry, the table centerpieces, and all the rest of the décor were all created by Taryn and Nathan with the help of their good friends and loved ones. It was all so colorful! And in addition to all of the visual loveliness, Nathan serenaded Taryn during their vows, which brought everyone to tears. (Me included.)

Everything about this fun and funky La Foret wedding reflected Taryn and Nathan’s relationship and their creative personalities to a tee. To cap it all off, thanks to the rain we were rewarded with a huge rainbow over the meadow. It was just lovely and romantic and beautiful. I had the best time documenting this special day.

Great Gatsby Photo Shoot :: Brandi

Great Gatsby photo shoot

This client, Brandi, has come to me for pinup photos in the past, but this time she wanted something different: she wanted a Gatsby photo shoot! The Mining Exchange Hotel generously allowed us to use their era-appropriate lobby for most of these, and Brandi styled herself perfectly. I love any chance to do something different and original — this was a really fun Great Gatsby photo shoot!

Retro Senior Pictures in Colorado Springs :: Rowan

retro senior portraits in Colorado Springs

I just love these retro senior pictures that I took of Miss Rowan in various locations around Colorado Springs! She’s so dang cute! And very photogenic. Rowan really wanted these to look like they were taken 60 or more years ago, so I did my best to make them as authentic as possible.

I love it when I get a high school senior who wants something different and isn’t afraid to stand out a little. I think Rowan has got miles of style, and a 1950s look works perfectly on her. In fact, she’s wearing her grandmother’s perfectly preserved vintage swimsuit in some of these photos. It’s certainly no surprise that it fits her perfectly, given their shared DNA! And that beautiful 1956 Chevrolet belongs to an acquaintance of mine who was nice enough to let us use it (very, very carefully) for a prop. The vintage blue and white polka-dotted dress is mine, and she bought the black dress at a thrift store. Rowan’s hair and makeup were expertly done by Kimberly Clay Artistry.

Rowan, you rocked your retro senior portraits photo shoot! What fun!
